Spray encapsulation
Encapsulation as a solution to protect liquid substances, in dry material systems to make them utilisable or better dealable.
The encapsulation provides the enclosed liquid droplets with an efficient protection for example against oxidation and prevents the direct contact with other components of a formulation at the point where an incompatibility (as in the case of bleach, reducing and oxidizing agents) would interfere. It allows the controlled release of specific liquid or solid substances (for example, silicone defoamers, flavours and fragrances) resolving a complex formulation via different mechanisms.

The encapsulation of liquids or powders
The encapsulation of liquids or powders is economically feasible by spray granulation of emulsions . The starting material which should be encapsulated (e.g. oils) are emulsified in a liquid (in the simplest case as an oil - in-water system). The emulsion is sprayed into the processing space. Spray droplets meet on the fluidized particles and wet the surface, thereby a liquid film is formed. In the case of water-based emulsions the liquid film dries through the heated fluidizing gas. Due to the evaporation the gas temperature drops immediately and the particles in the process chamber are constructed at relatively low temperatures. As a result of this effect the processing of sensitive products is possible, such as aroma oils. When drying the liquid film becomes a solid layer, the particles grow cupped.
The result consists of powders and granules with flexibly adjustable particle sizes, either by drying the external aqueous phase with the dissolved matrix material in the case of an aqueous emulsion/suspension, or by the solidification of a melt emulsion/suspension.
The result is a free-flowing granule with up to 50% liquid loading. Thereby the liquids in the particles are protected from external influences or against internal incompatibilities. By encapsulating significantly improved storage stability is reached. Don`t hesitate to contact us!
