Characters of Tionox
The importance of surface tension
- Promoting wetting quickly during high speed processing.
- Enhancing the efficiency of production and quality
- Suit well in new processing method, such as spraying, rolling coating etc.
- Better defoaming. wetting and leveling, no defects on surface film.
Surface tension and Tionox
Traditional defoamer:
Defoaming by incompatibility of hydrophobic materials, which can attract surfactant on the bubbles, so as to make foam breaking. |
Tionox performance:
Tionox adhes at the surface of bubbles, so as to change the surface tension of bubble, and knockdown foam then. Also, anti foaming for long time. |

Both solid additives and diluted with various solvent are available.
Performance properties
- Reduces microfoam in spray-applied systems
- Improves pigment grind efficiency
- Reduces water sensitivity
- Defoams, deairentrains, and improves flow
- Enhances leaf and soil penetration while improving bloom and stability in agricultural chemical formulations
- Lubricates, wets, and prevents smut formation while eliminating hot spots in metalworking fluids
Applications
Surface tension and wetting
For aqueous systems:
- Surface area will increase quickly during high speed processing.
- The surface energy rising with the concentration decrease of surfactant
- Wetting will be hard to meet the requirement under such situations. And
caused many problems, such as shrinking, organic peel etc.
Recoatability comparation with different additives
- Oil based additives adhes at the surface of coating, which caused inhomogeneous
surface tension. It’s hard to recoat. - Silicon based additives dry and fix in coatings surface with methyl molecular film.
The surface tension of such methyl film is very low (lower than 30N/M). It’s hard to recoat. - Fluorine based additives stay at the surface with fluorinated alkyl molecular film.
Such films also have very low surface tension (lower than 30N/M). It’s hard to recoat. - Tionox additives based on acetylenic diols. There is a molecular film with C6H12 when the
coatings dried. The surface tension of such films is close to various resins’ surface tension
(>35N/M). So, no effect to recoatability.
